To know a place. That is thru-hiking to me, to give myself up to a particular landscape in my experience. And the desire to know many landscapes and have many experiences. To keep on keeping on.

I need some coast in my life.

When I'm feeling blue I take out the trail register that I got on my trail birthday at Walker Pass on the PCT in 2006. There are NINE YEARS of thru-hiker entries in here (remember a brown register box between Walker pass and Kennedy Meadows....that was the spot). There are so many friends who have signed in...many friends that I met after the fact and I can go in and find them ❤ I think Billy Goat signed in like 10 times. Best present ever given to me by the best pal ever....NEMO! And someone actually returned it to me too after 9 years. You can find the best people on the woods (or desert).

Just cause you dont believe in them doesn't change the truth.
