Another solo desert hike was on deck in 2009. The 800ish mile Arizona Trail was a wonderful hike through a diverse landscape. This was the first thru-hike I didn’t finish. I had an agonizing decision near Pine, AZ to skip a 75-mile section that had been severely burned, and causing much angst among the hikers that year. I still need to go back and hike the Mazatzal Mountains.
You can watch a video I made of the hike here:
After the Arizona Trail I returned to Bend to continue working in wilderness therapy, and then with my boyfriend Kirk, decided to thru-hike the Wonderland Trail that fall.
